Online therapy for Greenwich and south east London
The Greenwich Psychologists offer online clinical psychology sessions for adults living in Greenwich and the surrounding SE10 and SE3 postcodes. Every appointment happens by secure video call, so location within south east London, from Cutty Sark to Blackheath, makes no difference to how you access support.
Online therapy for people living in Greenwich
Clinical psychologists for Greenwich and south east London work online with adults across the area, including Blackheath, Charlton, Deptford, Lewisham, New Cross and Maze Hill. Greenwich itself runs from the river at Cutty Sark, up through Greenwich Park towards Blackheath, and the DLR and Southeastern services from Cutty Sark, Greenwich and Maze Hill stations put central London within half an hour. None of that geography changes how online sessions work: you need a private space, a stable internet connection and a device with a camera.
Why choose private online therapy in Greenwich
Private therapy offers a choice of approach and pace that can be harder to find through busier routes into care. You might want to talk about a specific problem, such as panic attacks, or something broader, such as ongoing low mood. Either way, you work with a psychologist trained to assess and treat that presentation directly.
Working online removes the need to travel to and from an appointment, which matters if you’re juggling work, study or caring responsibilities. Sessions fit around your week rather than the other way round, and assessment, treatment planning and review follow the same structure you would expect from any clinical psychology service.
What we treat
We work with a range of presentations common in adults, including anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), health anxiety, panic, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and trauma, perinatal difficulties, and stress and burnout. Assessment looks at what you’re experiencing, how long it has been going on and what has kept it going, and a treatment plan is built from that.
This service does not provide crisis support. If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact 999, go to A&E, or call the Samaritans on 116 123.
Our therapeutic approaches
Treatment draws on approaches with evidence behind them for the difficulties adults bring to therapy. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is recommended by NICE for a range of anxiety disorders and depression, and focuses on the links between thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and compassion focused therapy are used where a person’s relationship with difficult thoughts and feelings, rather than the content of them, is the main target.
For trauma and PTSD, NICE guidance points to trauma focused CBT and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), both of which are used here. Schema therapy is offered for longer standing patterns that have not responded to shorter term work. Which approach fits best is decided during assessment, not before it.
How online therapy works
Sessions run on a secure video platform at a time you book in advance. You will need a private room, headphones if you want extra privacy, and a connection stable enough for video. Most people use a laptop or tablet, though a phone works too.
Contact is made initially to arrange an assessment. That first session covers what has brought you to therapy, relevant history and what you want to get out of the work, and a plan is agreed together from there. Ongoing sessions typically follow a regular weekly or fortnightly rhythm, reviewed as treatment progresses.
Online therapy vs face-to-face therapy in Greenwich
Online and face-to-face therapy use the same clinical methods, delivered through a different medium. Studies on remote delivery of CBT and other structured therapies have generally found outcomes comparable to in-person work for many common presentations, though the right format still depends on the individual and the difficulty being treated.
For residents of Greenwich, Blackheath and neighbouring areas, online sessions remove the travel into central London or across the borough that a clinic visit would otherwise involve. What stays the same is the clinical relationship, the structure of sessions and the therapist’s training and registration.
